On Sunday, January 10, 2010, a call was dispatched to 360 West Mountain Road reporting a fireplace problem with the residence filling up with smoke and visible smoke coming from the roof. Upon arrival, 2nd Assistant Chief Chesanek observed heavy fire running up the B side of the house and through the roof. He reported the wood framed chimney had already burned away and heavy smoke exiting the D side of the attic space.
As directed by Chief Chesanek, E-2 immediately advance down the 700 foot driveway to begin an aggressive interior attack. E-6 stretched a 5" hose line down the driveway to feed their tank water to E-2. At the top of the driveway, T-9 set up their drop tank with E-8 as the draft pumper. Avon and Canton fire departments also responded with their tankers. Two crews from E-2 led by Lt. Civitillo and Captain Jacobs entered the residence with two 1 3/4" hand lines. The second line was utilized to protect the egress for the primary suppression crew. R-14's crew assisted with pulling ceilings to access the fire in the attic. L-11's crew went to the roof for vertical vent in an attempt to control the fire from horizontal fire spread through the remainder of the attic.
The fire was quickly and aggressively knocked down with minimal additional fire spread and water damage to the residence. Salvage and overhaul was completed quickly and professionally.
Personnel arrive to find heavy smoke emitting from the structure. Modified dormer on the Charlie side of the structure. Smoke condition on the second floor. Flames begin to appear from the ridge vent as personnel cut the roof. Flames begin to take hold at the ridge and along the cuts made to open the roof. Fire quickly intensifying on the the roof. Interior crews working on the second floor.
