The Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company has long been a supporter of Simsbury High School by being involved in several of the school's annual events. Each year a detail from the Fire Company participates in the homecoming parade and Tower 12 attends graduation to recognize and congratulate our members during that important moment in the lives.

Recently when a new track and field was installed at the high School, Engine 1 could no longer participate in homecoming because of the potential for damage to the grounds. Instead, an honor guard comprised of the Fire Company's Junior Firefighters took over the duty. With that in mind, Chief of the Department James Baldis approached the school to see if they would be interested in having a departmental honor guard participate at the high school graduation comprised of Fire Company members who had previous graduated from the school. The administration enthusiastically agreed.

On the evening of June 19, the graduation ceremony for Simsbury High School's Class of 2008 was held at Simsbury Meadows. The honor guard was comprised of:

Chief of the Department James Baldis
Class of 1975

Fire Photographer Ken Beliveau
Class of 1974

Firefighter Brendan Letson
Class of 2002
Deputy Chief Kevin Kowalski
Class of 1975

Firefighter Michael McDonald
Class of 2003

Firefighter Andrew Gaines
Class of 2001

After leading the teachers and graduates to their seats, the honor guard took to the stage and presented the colors for the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company congratulates our members Alexander Fleming, Austin Grandahl and Nicole Landry on their graduation and wish them all the best as they begin the next chapter in their lives.
